Interesting Curriculum Opportunity For Economics and/or Business Teachers

I just received the following message concerning a Financial Literacy Curriculum and Assessment.  This is from WISE (Working in Support of Education):

Financial Literacy Curriculum and Assessment.  WISE (Working in Support of Education), a not-for-profit organization in New York City, has developed a financial literacy curriculum and assessment to supplement the NYS grade 12 Economics core curriculum.  This curriculum focuses on the finance section of the core curriculum and includes an assessment option.  WISE offers the curriculum, assessment, and staff development opportunities free-of -charge to participating school districts.  So far, over 23,000 students and 71 schools have participated in the greater New York City area over the past 4 years.  The assessment, offered twice each school year, consists of 50 multiple choice questions based on the content in the core curriculum. The results are only reported to the contact person for participating districts.  Each student who passes the test receives a certificate from WISE and the State Education Department.  Schools with at least 75% of their students passing the test are designated Blue Star Schools and receive a banner and are recognized on www.moneypower.org.   WISE has received a grant from the Allstate Foundation and the State Banking Department to move this program into the Syracuse, Albany, Buffalo and Rochester areas and to other upstate communities.  If you and your school district would like to participate, you can learn more about the program on the WISE web site at www.wise-ny.org or contact Phyllis Frankfort, President, at pfrankfort@wise.org or Daryl Weinstein, Program Manager at dweinstein@wise-ny.org. George Gregory is the upstate contact for the program at Gregorikis@aol.com  Sample test items are available at www.moneypower.org.
